Editing and Creating in One Convenient Location
Team Picnik has been working hard to bring all our best features together in one way more convenient location. Now in the Edit tab, the Edit Tools like Crop, Rotate, Exposure, even Auto-Fix can be found next to all the Create Tools like Effects, Text, Shapes, and Touch-ups!
We think this will make it even easier to add extra awesomeness to your photos, without having to switch tabs or go digging around to get those pictures perfect.
There are a few additional changes. Remember Local Contrast? It’s a fancy term for a feature that adds definition to your photos by enhancing contrast with advanced levels of detail and control. Now it’s called Clarity, and can be found in Sharpen, in the Edit section.
Highlights and Shadows are now easier to find in the Edit section’s Exposure tool. Use these sliders to fix photos that have been over- or under-exposed.
Do you recall that cryptic Advanced button in Sharpen? Now we’ve called it what it is: Unsharp Mask! Use this advanced Edit tool for finer control while sharpening blurry or featureless photos.
And Red-Eye (and that all-essential Pet-Eye)? It seemed strange to have them so far away from the other eye-themed fixes, so now they’re both in Touch-Ups next to Eye Color, Eye Bright, and Mascara.

We hope you enjoy these changes and find that they make it easier to make your photos wonderful as the memories they represent.
Happy Picniking from all of us on Team Picnik!

I ready for some new features :)
August 29th, 2011 at 2:53 pm
I think that you should add some new fonts! That would be really cool! I like what you have done here now, could you add more fonts please? If you could I’m sure I, Biffle and other people would enjoy it as much as I would! I like what you have done! Picnik is awesome!
August 29th, 2011 at 2:56 pm
Add more stickers and fonts for non premiums.
And maybe get the 2 year membership?
August 29th, 2011 at 4:24 pm
please more fonts
August 29th, 2011 at 6:25 pm
Cool. Take requests?? How about more textures, and how about some features like iPhone has, like hipstagram or instagram?? Please? :)

So NOT liking this new format- it’s now very cumbersome and less intuitive (what I had previously liked about the site)- ugh- now I have to look for a new program- so NOT happy with this :-(
August 29th, 2011 at 11:47 pm
It was perfect the way it was. Not liking this format.
August 30th, 2011 at 9:52 am
what happened to the “undo”? Recently you could undo you last paint brush stroke which was great. Now your only option is to cancel the effect which erases all other brush strokes.
Otherwise, I actually like having one less tab and having pet eye next to human eye touch up. Do miss the histogram…
August 30th, 2011 at 10:20 am
Not AT ALL happy about this change…
August 30th, 2011 at 12:38 pm
Why is the UNDO and REDO button inactive/not working? will this be fixed soon?
August 30th, 2011 at 3:47 pm
i’ve been trying to edit all day with this new format and i’m still not sure how i feel. is it just me or do the basic editing tools not even edit the same way? for example, i’ve been playing with the contrast on some of my images and sometimes it turns the pictures all dark or overly contrasted? it’s like i can barely make slight adjustments….even the color adjustment seems more (read: overly) vibrant…
August 30th, 2011 at 4:31 pm
I am extremely disappointed by your changes. They have made Picnik, which had been my photo editor of choice, useless to me. “Local Contrast” DOES NOT work as it did before and is cumbersome to use now regardless! That was the one feature which set you apart from many of the other editors and which I used often and very successfully. Now I’ll have to search for a substitute among your competitors, which is inconvenient because I liked to do my editing from within my Flickr photostream. Please restore the functionality of that tool!
August 30th, 2011 at 5:40 pm
I am disappointed with the new changes, just uploaded new pictures to edit and find that everything has changed. Please change it back it was perfect before, I pay for the premium package and don’t want to have to find another editing program.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:30 pm
Just as I was starting to really like and get the hang of Picnik, they suddenly changed it into a shadow of it’s former self. Then I looked, and lo & behold, it turns out it’s a Google product! That explains everything! They turned YouTube into crap, so why not do it with Picnik as well? Just watching as America fails, one company at a time.
August 30th, 2011 at 10:33 pm
The title of this blog should be: “Losing features all in one convenient location”.
August 31st, 2011 at 11:13 am
Still the greatest free phot editting site on the web But it wasn’t broken so why mess with it. I don’t think the new edit section is a variable as the former. I also notice that when you click “undo” as in “doodle” It takes everything not just the last addition. Not as handy. Please go back to your former awesomeness.
August 31st, 2011 at 12:28 pm
Im with DAMNGOOD where is the histograms that is an important feature for people to have and be able to see this when making adjustments. I would like it back please. that was the best part of this program and one of the reasons I am a subscriber.
August 31st, 2011 at 12:29 pm
OOPS sorry *Donna Good
August 31st, 2011 at 1:04 pm
This definitely is less sophisticated than the previous version of Picnik, which is too bad.
I wouldn’t mind it so much, if you hadn’t lost the Histogram. Please bring it back soon!
August 31st, 2011 at 6:04 pm
This is so weird. Yesterday I was upset because the collage feature had strangely disappeared, and today it’s back! I’m happy about that, and I also love the fonts. No complaints today. ^_^

im very sad
i loved picnik the way it was
you did NOT add new feature
you consolidated them and they are not the same
‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’
put it back the way it was and add something new
like: being able to add another photo into the existing photo
i have to add extra items/photos in ‘paint’ after im done in picnik
ADD LAYERS TO PICNIK!!!!!!!!!!
my subscription expired in 14 days and im not sure its worth the money now. :(
i dont <3 the exposure feature anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This change hasn’t been useful at all, It’s more difficult to edit photos with a lay-out like this, it should be optional. It sure does look better but It’s not anywhere close to user-friendly.
The good thing about the old lay-out was because everything was horizontal so you could view the photo and the option at once. Example: You’re editing a picture and you want to crop it. Let’s say you want it 160×120, you now either have to look at the size or at the pic It’s self however before the update you had a balanced view. Please make this optional, I use this site very often for avatars and signatures.

Love your program and will continue to use it but not too happy with the changes…like when you add to your programs but not change it up..right now having problems getting the basics to do their job..and the undo to redo isn’t good. BUT witht that said..I’m sure you will take everyone’s comments into consideration and make it all good again and even better.
September 1st, 2011 at 9:13 pm
IS this making picnik unavailable for a while? Because it’s not loading on my computer….

PLEASE PUT THE SPACE GRAPHICS FOR PICTURES BACK UP
September 1st, 2011 at 10:06 pm
Like the old format…and can’t get any of the new collages to work. They won’t load….and I liked the undo/redo button from before and I don’t like the new sharpen / clarity…that too was better before. Would love some new “life” like stickers…like the gerbera daisies and more collages…
September 1st, 2011 at 10:09 pm
Oh yeah and most of the time I can’t even see the photos…they disappear after loading them. This was my favorite pic editing site…but lately it’s just been a pain in the butt to get anything to work :(
September 2nd, 2011 at 8:50 am
I am one who loves change, but ONLY if it is for the better.
I cannot get my “true colors” with the changed features, where are the percentages? and I like my object centered, don’t like the feel of leaning to the right to edit. Just is not working for me and I will not renew to Premium again. Having to use DIP9 to do additional hue-tint editing so might as well find a new all in one application.
Plus the editing is taking twice as long – 5x pics per Etsy project is not good timewise.
And I used to promote Picnik out the wazoo!
Thanks for listening.

I really miss local contrast –the new tab does not respond in the same way. I cannot get the fancy collages to load. Many tabs that weren’t change (i.e. Vibrancy) no do not work or are inconsistent. Over all it seems less responsive. I like the organization but dislike the downgrade it quality.

For a good month or so Picnik had Space Textures – but they are now gone. Why can’t the featured Textures be placed under the Textures tab permanently? This is the same for some of the featured Collage effects. Why bring them on and then remove them?
September 3rd, 2011 at 4:06 pm
very nice!!
September 4th, 2011 at 6:52 am
I have to agree I also don’t care for the changes.
First, it makes the page very cluttered and makes viewing what you are trying to do very difficult.
While surely there are folks here doing all the fancy stuff with collages, etc., there are also many of us here who just want to do good basic photo editing.
PERIOD.
This new format makes it very cumbersome and doesn’t appear to actually edit as well.
While it’s nice to have stuff for the “fancy folks” others prefer to just get in, get the work done quickly and get out.
It would seem that there should be some balance between the two.
Also, why is it that websites refuse to put up a beta to get reaction prior to actually finalizing the end result?
September 4th, 2011 at 7:37 am
THIS IS COOOLLL!!!
September 5th, 2011 at 5:42 am
Please bring back the histogram! It was essential when adjusting exposure. I don’t care too much for the other changes but I could put up with it if you brought the histogram back.

I have not been able to send my photo’s to facebook since you changed this.I have tried for four days.I am doing senior photo’s and can’t even connect to facebook for them to see,it never was a problem until the change. It has caused somethig and I can’t figure it out.I need help with it.For the most of it,I do like alot of the changes but some of them no.If I can’t get it to connect to facebook soon then i am gonna try someone else. Please help me get this working. Thanks

September 14th, 2011 at 10:25 pm
I am very very dissatisfied with the changes that were made to the photo editing buttons and tabs. I do not feel that they still perform at the same quality that they did before. Today I had to use Photoshop to fix a photo before I could edit it in Picnik. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE! I used to be able to do all my editing in picnik without ever having to use photoshop which I used to consider way more complicated. Wierd how I can now get it to do what I want but not picnik. Please return me to photo editing nirvana and return to the old format and tools. Was hoping to join premium membership before, but I do not think it is worth it now.
September 15th, 2011 at 3:53 pm
I use photoshop for the most part but this isnt too bad. Seems like some people wish the old tools would come back. Just got to get used to the changes.

I do not like the fact that you can’t undo one stroke. Like when I was in wrinkle remover….if I didnt like it I could undo the one brush stroke…..but now it undoes the whole thing….NOT happy- someone said below……..what happened to the “undo”? Recently you could undo you last paint brush stroke which was great. Now your only option is to cancel the effect which erases all other brush strokes. I agree!

September 20th, 2011 at 7:04 pm
I do not like the changes. At all. The contrast button used to be so simple and make my photos look amazing, now none of the buttons in that little section work correctly. My photos do not look as good. Also I do not like the new layout at all. Will not be continuing paying the subscription unless it goes back to the way it was, which saddens me because this used to be the best program out there.

Would LOVE an eraser tool for textures, this would be so wonderful! Adding texture to a photo is great but when the texture is on the skin it doesn’t look right. Couldn’t this be treated like any other filter that has the “original” paintbrush to get the orig pic to show through?
Thanks for listening!

i like the changes , but i want some new fonts , and more features .
Picnik is my best online tool
Thank you for all what you done for us .
October 2nd, 2011 at 6:43 am
Picnik used to be the definition for user friendliness in online photo editing, much the same as how Apple i-series first revolutionalised touchscreen gadgets–simple, intuitive, and innovating. It got all its competitors to reflect and react in their stubborn following of cramming too much in something that should be simple.
I mean, it was very smart to keep all the photo quick fix for the free users, and leave all the complicated stuffs to those premium users who need or wanting to explore them. At the same time, it gives you glimpses how you could easily do what pros and the adventurous could do.
As an amateur my personal experience is through its Exposure menu I first learnt what Histograms are for and can do, and started loving it! No other competitors allow you to see the graphical shift in the histogram as you adjust it–only Picnik does.
The latest changes in Sept was supposedly an update in this direction. Simplifying menus that were already simple to use for non-professional users–but then, you can’t easily simplify what’s already simple. In doing so without stepping into the shoes of an amateur looking for fun in photo editing but on a learning curve, is a step backwards.
Progress is not easy…
October 2nd, 2011 at 7:22 am
i had a idea for the frames….. and you guys at Picnik have awesome talent making my photos awesome ! but did you ever think of ” burnt edges” for a frame… like when you wrote a note to sombody and you burned the edges.. and it was all jagged and browned sometimes small holes you never knew what you were gonna get when you did that . just a idea hope you use it cus I WOULD LOVE TO USE IT

Ok, so my name is Alexis and i am 14 years old. I’M obsessed with editing pictures, its like when i start editing i don’t wanna stop. maybe as if I’m lost in the picture. I wanna be a photographer when i grow up, might as well start now. Right! I give my all while editing my pictures. I like to go all out on my pictures, but sometimes naturally. because you shouldn’t care what people think about you! Beauty is only skin deep, that’s how i see it. most people like to judge. that’s ok though because everyone is beautiful in their own eyes. I think Picnik is wonderful, well let me Re-phase for you picnik is AMAZING!! I hope you have time to read this. I was gonna make a blog, but i didn’t know how. haha. but thanks for your time.

Do people ever receive any answer to their comment, and where?
I find Picnik great, although I miss a few features:
1. As so many others write, please give us back the undo-redo possibility, which is almost essential.
2. New, simple fonts, like Segoe, the choice is now either boring, classical Times and Ariel, or fancy, overpowering “ANIMAL”
3. That the announed features actually work, i.g. right-click in picture never does a thing.
4. An improvement of the feature “Circle Splash”. Here is one example showing the necessity for the undo-redo btton. to make it easier to work with. It is a great tool, with lots of possibilities
4.Of course the Rolls Royce of it all would be to be able to se 2 versions of the same picture at the same time.
Kind regards

Wondering how you can keep the background in color but make the people blacked out? For example, I have a wedding picture with the sun setting so the sky is all red and orange. I want the bride and groom to be blacked out so all you can see is their figures with the sun shining down on them? If that makes sense…

Field of Depth – Do you have a feature to create soft blurry backgrounds in portraits to highlight your main subject and get rid of any distractions in the background?

i had a idea for the frames….. and you guys at Picnik have awesome talent making my photos awesome ! but did you ever think of ” burnt edges” for a frame… like when you wrote a note to sombody and you burned the edges.. and it was all jagged and browned sometimes small holes you never knew what you were gonna get when you did that . just a idea hope you use it cus I WOULD LOVE TO USE IT

Hi guys and gals,
I’m making a poster with multiple photo’s and fonts, etc…
I’m wondering why I can’t go back and edit. I can for a little while.
Is there a time period?
If so, is there a way to bypass that time limit?
I have had to re do a whole new poster too many times.
Ofcourse, it’s making me think more about typo’s, etc., etc.
….BEFORE I save it…
Or do I have to get a Premium upgrade?…..ha ha!
Thanks again!!
..and have a Happy New Year y all…I love your website and software. It has really put my skills to the test….
