When Bitnik, Inc was created, our founders envisioned making great software for real people and giving users the power to edit digital photos in their browser, without having to purchase or download complicated software. What does this mean for you Picnikers? Nothing is changing right away, but Picnik now has more potential than ever before. 1. What is Picnik?
Picnik is a fast, fun, easy to use and powerful set of photo editing tools for editing, sharing and printing images using any internet browser on any computer platform. Picnik is integrated with a wide variety of websites like Picasa Web Albums, Facebook, Flickr, Yahoo! Mail and Photobucket. With Picnik, you can edit your photos wherever they are from wherever you are.
2. What happens to my Picnik account and settings?
Your Picnik account and settings will stay the same. To view, change or delete your Picnik account and settings, go here.
3. Do I have to log into Google to use Picnik?
No, you don’t need a Google account to use Picnik. Picnik is free to use and registration is not required, although to make Picnik even better, we encourage you to create an account here.
4. Will I still be able to access other social networking and photo storage sites from Picnik, or access Picnik from those social networking and photo storage sites?
Yes!
5. Will Picnik still offer feedback support?
Absolutely!
6. What will happen to Easy Listening Thursday (ELT)?
We plan on sitting back, relaxing, and letting the soothing sounds of ELT guide us into a Thursday evening in our new Google Seattle offices.
7. What happens to Team Picnik?
Team Picnik will continue working on Picnik from Google’s Seattle offices.

Great job. Excellent app. I have been recommending it since I blogged about it in dec 2007 as a great app built with flash. I guess flash based apps that score good usability can be worth lots of money.

Like others, I am hoping that Google does’t gradually make you disappear once they own you. I have used Picnik for awhile and it is truly my favorite online photo editing tool. I’m happy for you folks but selfishly have concerns about what Google might do to you. Best of luck.

Congrats to all the guys and als over there. It must be very exciting to have all of the new resources available to you that Goog can provide. Are you going to keep the site written in Flex or are there immediate plans to to rewrite the site? If I remember correctly Google uses their own software development processes and typically have new comers rewrite according to their scalability needs. In any event it has been great using Picnik here and there, hopefully it will be a smooth transition.

I used picnik for editing purpose. It has good handy editing features ( and even upload time is far less than picasa). Keep up the good work and now its real test for you people since you will get a very huge customer base after getting integrated with google’s picasa :-). It’s always sad to see companies sell out to Google.
But, everyone has their price, and Google knows how to pay it.
They aren’t the “be all, end all.” They’ve taken too many start-ups and let them dwindle away into nothing.
Time for me to find another online photo editor. What a shame.

I have to agree with Pete Senoff… I too am worried that Google will let you slip through the cracks. It has happened too many times before, and I really don’t want to see it happen to one of my most favored online applications like Picnik.
On a separate note, I used to use Picnik a lot more than I do now, but my wife liked it as well, so she got the premium version and stuck me with the free version. Can’t afford both accounts to be premium. :O(

Congratulations Picnik!
And a word of comfort for the users who fear Google will destroy the community aspect of Picnik. I’m a big user at TouTube, and when YouTube was purchased by Google, the community wasn’t destroyed and the website didn’t develope into a puddle of money-making schemes for Google. I think Google will genuinely respect the people who use and love Picnik.

Hey Picnik! I just wanted to say ‘Congratulations!’ However, as a full time Picnik user, I do not want to see Picnik advertised. I think that the ‘family’ we’ve created here should be a secret and kept a secret! It would be a waste of money to advertise when you could be improving the site. Also, it’s fun to see the reactions on my friend’s faces when I do create a photo masterpiece. Magicians keep their tricks a secret, am I not right? I also do not want to see any major changes the the values of Picnik. Let’s not get too over our heads and Google-fy this amazing and pure genius site. You’ve already had millions of hits just by being yourselves. Keep Picnik the way us users would want to use it. Keep us in mind, too.

I cannot edit nor create with Picnik since months. I’ve been following all trouble shooting suggestions and still: it is not working. Why? I’ve also seen several posts at Flickr and other forums that people is having the same problem.
Will you solve it?

As a photographer just starting my business, Picnik is the only editing program I use. I have always been so happy with your website! While I tend to be a fan of the smaller business operations, I know that Google will help Picnik beyond what you could even imagine. I have tried to tell many of my acquaintances about how brilliant Piknik is and I just get a shrug and comments about Picasa being ok for what they need. Yes I always download from my camera to Picasa, and possibly do a first crop but then it’s off to Piknik for the really clever stuff.

I recommend Picnik to all of my mom friends and their kids – it is one of my favorite sites which I have used over the last two years for family and PTO stuff. Signed on after I read about it in the WSJ. Also noticed that the graphic artist students use it at our high school Newton North. Happy for the picnik staff – congratulations, you guys deserve the success! hope the site stays as fabulous as it is now.

Picnik is the best photo editing website you can find. I only use Picnik for my photo editing. I don’t really understand what this means for us because I don’t use google for anything, but as long as I can still get to Picnik its fine by me.

How could Picnik get any better with Google? It’s already pretty darn good as it is! As a Gmail user, I think it would be cool to see Picnik intergrated with that. Keep up the good work Picnik, you have a great application that I thoroughly enjoy using.

That is really cool! I discovered Picnik through google so it is really cool! Loads of my mates have started using it- virtually all my facebook friends did when I put a picniked photo on facebook! I absolutely love picnik, but do not care for google. I hope they don’t mess you guys up like they do a lot of other sites. I’d bought a premium account, but I’ll see if it gets renewed this next year or not. Google is getting a little too powerful on the web and soon will be able to change things up whether the people like it or not. It’s almost like the USA government. Here’s watching…

Picnik is a great site and deserves all of the positive attn. they are getting now. I love picnik and one thing that i suggest that would make you way more popular is to broaden your horizons. I own an itouch and would be thrilled if you made picnik an app. for all of your itouch-having fans. I believe this would bring lots of attn. to you and would boost your ratings. Iam crazy about Picnik just love it. its so quick and easy to use and thats what people want because we live in such a busy world :)I have tired photoshop and PhotoPlus i just cant get use to them and the take so long to edit with to many tools u got to use. I was wondering are u going to come out with the slimming tool at all? and are u going to ever sell any Picnik CD’s…Coz i’d be the first to buy all your editing programe cd’s…..Well done team awesome work dont know what I’d do with out Picnik :) Candy*

i love picnik. i have a blast editing my photos on here. although it seems like ever since google acquired picnik i have trouble at least once a day getting picnik to open. it’s so frustrating not being able to open it when i need it. any suggestions?

so i like this site but im just confused as to why u would say its free when u have to pay $2.50 or w.e to get picnik premium ? see i try using this to make my pictures awesome because i heard nothing but good about it but i would like to use the premium for free because aparently its better and easier and there is more.. it sucks when i have to use the same things over and over for basically every picture i do on the normal picnik. i just think u shouldnt have to pay for any editing sites unless they r professional just my way of thinking .and im not making a big deal out of it but some people dont have credit cards and stuff and dont want to get credit cards u should really think about it both ways not just one way.

The dager is that bigger often means more complicated, and more buggy.

I have to agree with Pete Senoff… I too am worried that Google will let you slip through the cracks. It has happened too many times before, and I really don’t want to see it happen to one of my most favored online applications like Picnik.
On a separate note, I used to use Picnik a lot more than I do now, but my wife liked it as well, so she got the premium version and stuck me with the free version. Can’t afford both accounts to be premium. :O(

This sucks. Google is going to take away the free tools and make Picnik a complete PAY application.
Enjoy Picnik while you can. I guarantee it wont be free for much longer.
