Oh Canada!

posted by mike Oct 9th, 2007

Since our v1.0 release we’ve seen a lot of new traffic on the site. People are really getting into the new text, shapes and effects. But yesterday was especially cool, we had a record amount of traffic! And get this — we had more users from Canada yesterday then from the US!  I’d like to believe the record traffic is because of our resident Canadian (Steve) and his influence over his native country and vast family connections but the 3-day Canadian Thanksgiving weekend might have had something to do with it.

Happy Day-After Thanksgiving, Canada!

I’d also like to introduce the newest member of the Picnik Team: Charlie Whiton.  With all of the new features and constant stream of feedback email, we’re really happy to have Charlie on board.  Charlie comes to Picnik with lots of experience working with large online applications (like Expedia), online games and other consumer applications. There are some of the big features coming soon and we’re delighted to have someone focused on quality.  Charlie is also on top of feedback and forums, so you’ll probably be reading something from Charlie soon. Welcome Charlie!

P.S. We’re running a little behind here at Picnik. The week-long Picnik Premium preview has been extended another week.  Enjoy!

Having a Picnik Premium preview across the board is good for this launch phase, when you have existing users who you want to have trying Premium features. But what about new users in the future? Will you change the wording to say something like “when you register for Picnik, we’ll let you try out Premium for a week, after which you can continue for $24.95/year, or revert to the basic service”?

The Premium labeled features will still be available to try indefinitely but you won’t be able to Apply them permanently. We think this is better than a 1 week trial because our subscription is to a “Premium Feature Stream” where we are always coming out with great new features. If we had a limited trial you’d be unable to try the cool new stuff we deliver a couple months down the road after the trial expired.
